Internet Development Status
With the rapid expansion of Internet services, the Internet plays an increasingly important role in economic and social development as well as people's daily life. According to the 44th Statistical Report on Internet Development in China released by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), as of June 2019, the number of netizens in China reached 854 million, with an Internet penetration rate of 61.2%. Among them, 99.1% of netizens use mobile phones to access the Internet, mainly for online shopping, videos, education, and public services. The popularization of the mobile Internet highlights Internet access experience, promoting the development of content delivery network (CDN) services.
With the advent of the 5G and IoT eras, the increasing trend of Internet of Everything, and the explosive growth of high data requirements such as live streaming and short videos, the total amount of Internet data has increased exponentially. This brings massive CDN market requirements. Cloud service and video enterprise CDN service providers are rapidly emerging. By June 5, 2020, 919 enterprises have obtained CDN licenses, and 255 of them have obtained the national CDN operation qualification.
As more and more enterprises enter the CDN market, the CDN market in China gradually becomes mature, and the traditional CDN, cloud computing enterprise CDN, and innovative CDN are competing with each other. In the edge computing era, CDN is making the Internet more intelligent, secure, and flexible. Industries such as entertainment, e-commerce, and gaming that rely on the Internet will use CDN to improve distribution efficiency and product experience. CDN service providers need to focus on comprehensive service capabilities, such as security, stability, high speed, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
