Overview

This document describes how to enable the HiSock feature on a Kunpeng server running the openEuler OS.

In high-concurrency Internet service scenarios, the traditional network protocol stack incurs significant processing overhead, resulting in long service response latency. This feature enables a kernel-programmable layer-skipping transparent transmission mechanism based on the extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) technology. It improves the performance and throughput of Kunpeng products when carrying high-concurrency and low-latency network loads, providing stronger support for key service scenarios.

HiSock is a kernel network optimization feature designed for high-performance network forwarding scenarios. This feature leverages eBPF capabilities to attach BPF programs to the connection setup, packet reception, and packet sending paths. It establishes fast-forwarding contexts for eligible TCP connections, and redirects packets during subsequent data sending and reception to achieve fast transparent transmission. This reduces the extra overhead incurred by generic processing paths such as the traditional protocol stack, routing, and Netfilter.
