BoostSDS
BoostSDS is an enablement kit for software-defined storage (SDS) scenarios. Based on the Kunpeng hardware platform and open-source distributed storage software such as Ceph, BoostSDS tunes system parameters, accelerates basic algorithms, and optimizes application paths to improve the overall IOPS of storage systems, reduce end-to-end latency and storage costs, and build a cost-effective distributed storage foundation. The optimization focuses on accelerating basic storage algorithms such as CRC, EC, and compression, while fostering hardware-software collaboration across Kunpeng processors, NICs, and SSDs.
Application Acceleration Features
- Ceph SPDK I/O Acceleration
Enables the user-mode SPDK driver to access NVMe devices, shortening I/O paths and reducing latency at the BlueStore layer of Ceph.
- Ceph RDMA Network Acceleration
Accelerates network processing and reduces the read/write latency, improving cluster performance within 1 ms.
- Ceph EC Turbo
Optimizes the EC process of open-source Ceph to reduce I/O amplification in data read/write.
- Ceph Data Compaction
Reconstructs the metadata structure and layout, and assembles compression headers and data blocks to improve data storage efficiency.
- RocksDB Performance Optimization
Uses a Huawei-developed algorithm to enable Kunpeng acceleration for better storage performance in RocksDB.
- Ucache Smart Read Cache
Uses high-speed media to cache data.
- Smart Write Cache
Uses the QoS policy to control frontend I/O traffic and improve performance.
- I/O Passthrough
Optimizes I/O processes to improve the performance of Ceph clusters in general-purpose configuration.
- BoostIO
Uses memory and drive resources on the compute side to build distributed multi-tier cache. The write cache improves service write performance, and the read cache improves the read cache hit ratio.
