Computing Performance Differences Between the REE and TEE

The Kunpeng TrustZone technology uses the time division multiplexing technology to distinguish the CPU operating status. A hardware system is divided into two independent environments: REE and TEE. Theoretically, both REE and TEE are executed in real CPU time slices; therefore, there is no significant difference in performance.

The actual test result is basically the same as the theoretical result.

Environments: The same computing application is deployed in the REE and TEE based on OpenSSL. The single-thread and multi-thread tests are performed using several common algorithms.

Conclusion: The software stacks of the REE and TEE are different but the performance difference is slight.

The preceding data is used to compare the computing performance in the REE and TEE, and cannot be regarded as the Kunpeng CPU performance.
