Tuning the BIOS Configuration

Configure advanced BIOS settings to improve server performance.

  • For details about how to tune servers that use Kunpeng 920 processors, see Tuning Procedure (Kunpeng 920).
  • For details about how to tune servers that use Kunpeng 920 7270Z or 7265X processors (new models), see Table 2.

Power Policy

Sets the power policy.

  • Efficiency: indicates the energy-saving mode, which supports Collaborative Processor Performance Control (CPPC) dynamic frequency modulation.
  • Performance: indicates the performance mode. In this mode, no dynamic frequency modulation (FM) is available, and the operating frequency is fixed at the nominal frequency.

Performance

  1. Restart the server and enter the BIOS.

    For details, see "Accessing the BIOS" in TaiShan Server BIOS Parameter Reference (Kunpeng 920 Processor).

  2. Configure the BIOS according to Table 1.
    1. Enable SMMU.
      1. In the BIOS, choose Advanced > MISC Config and press Enter.
      2. Set Support Smmu to Enabled.
    2. Disable hardware prefetching.
      1. In the BIOS, choose Advanced > MISC Config and press Enter.
      2. Set CPU Prefetching Configuration to Disabled.
    3. Set the power policy to performance mode.
      1. In the BIOS, choose Advanced > Performance Config and press Enter.
      2. Set Power Policy to Performance.
    4. Press F10 to save the settings and exit.
  3. Restart the server for the BIOS modifications to take effect.

GIC Version

  1. Restart the server and enter the BIOS.

    For details, see "Accessing the BIOS" in TaiShan Server BIOS Parameter Reference (Kunpeng 920 Processor).

  2. Configure the BIOS according to Table 2.
    1. Enable SMMU.

      Enable the SMMU feature only in virtualization scenarios. In non-virtualization scenarios, disable SMMU.

      1. In the BIOS, choose Advanced > MISC Config and press Enter.
      2. Set Support Smmu to Enabled.
    2. Set the power policy to performance mode.
      1. In the BIOS, choose Advanced > Performance Config and press Enter.
      2. Set Power Policy to Performance.
    3. Set the GIC version to 4.1.
      1. In the BIOS, choose Advanced > Processor Configuration and press Enter.
      2. Set GIC Version to 4.1.
    4. Press F10 to save the settings and exit.
  3. Restart the server for the BIOS modifications to take effect.
