Data Plane Develop Kit (DPDK) is a data plane development toolkit provided by Intel. It is used for network data packet acceleration. It switches the processing of data packets received by traditional NICs from kernel mode to user mode to reduce overheads of CPU interrupt processing and context switching. Generally, the DPDK basic performance test uses the standard test program provided by DPDK and a hardware packet sending tool (Sprint TestCenter is used in this example). In this example, the server has a TM280 (4 x 24G) LOM that supports DPDK. The LOM is directly connected to Spirent TestCenter and Spirent TestCenter sends packets to perform the performance test. Figure 1 shows the test network. Packets are transmitted to the server to be tested and the DPDK performance is tested by comparing the transmit (TX) packet quantity and receive (RX) packet quantity.
